I’ve done some research on vitamins (or you can call them supplements) and have found some interesting info that will help you with not only lettuce vitamins, but others as well when it comes to the true nutritional value. I understand the need for vitamins with true nutritional value too and am now taking food supplements from Shaklee. They are where it all started in the first place over 50 years ago – and they have never had a recall. Enough about them…here is the info you need to keep in mind no matter which vitamin you take:
There are 3 types of vitamins:
Synthetic
(Drug Store Variety – can be compared to a plastic lemon):
Man-made (in a test-tube)
No Enzymes (necessary for life – like the life force in a seed, aids nutrient metabolism)
Inorganic Substances, Artificial Colors, Flavors, & Sweeteners
Stimulant (short term)
Imbalanced
Side Effects
Harsh Binders and Fillers
Many are coated with shellac which is nearly totally resistant to the penetration of stomach fluids (Translation: They won’t dissolve and therefore you don’t anything from them and they sit in your stomach)
Natural Extracts
(Health Food Store Variety – can be compared to a plastic lemon with some lemon juice inside):
Extracts of only selected nutrients
Weak Enzymes
Uses Chemical and/or Heat Extraction (destroys enzymes)
Artificial Colors, Flavors, & Sweeteners
“Natural” – they may legally say “Natural” as long as 15% natural exists in the product (What is in the other 85%?)
Stimulant (short term)
Imbalanced (mega doses on cheap B Vitamins, skimps on Biotin)
Harsh Binders and Fillers
Many of these are also coated with shellac which is nearly totally resistant to the penetration of stomach fluids as discussed above
Natural & Unaltered
(Shaklee Food Supplements – can be compared to a real, whole lemon)
Balanced whole food
Strong Enzymatic Action
Cool, No Chemical Processing
Highest Quality Raw Materials, 84,000 Tests
Feeds and Improves Cell Health (Natural Vita E proven much more bioavailable than synthetic)
Only company with proven absorption through independent, peer-reviewed, published clinical studies
Contains both Known and Unknown Nutrients in Natures Balance, examples:
Contains Phytonutrients only found in food
Shaklee’s Vita E contains all 9 tocopherols, others contain only one
Here is the link I use: http://www.shaklee.net/healththatworks. Check out Vitalizer – that is what I take because it is the most complete system you can find. I talk with a LPN too which really helps – especially understanding everything in the beginning. You can ask for one when you email healththatworks@shaklee.net
I hope this helps – Good Luck!
