Is it possible to take vitamins and not eat?

I am wondering if one could survive on vitamins and not food. People on here always so no you shouldn’t starve yourself because you wouldnt get proper nutrition. Well vitamins have 100% daily value (sometimes more) of everything! Could this make me lose weight

Yeah, you would definatly lose weight but when you started eating again, your body would pile the weight on quickly! This is called yoyo dieting. You would be soooo hungry and lack energy. Vitamins give you vitamins, not the energy your body need to funstion and absorb the nutrients. Don’t do it. Take the vitamins, but keep eating healthily.

Nope. You want to lose weight? Then you need to eat a minimum of 1,200 calories a day. If you tried to live on vitamins only, they’d make you VERY nauseous and when your body realizes you’re starving it, it will shut down to save ALL your stored fat and calories to protect your vital organs. So, you’d actually be making yourself worse instead of better. You want to lose weight? Then do it the right way. Diet and exercise.

Uhhh. I don’t know. I think you might be able to get by eating a little bit of food with it, maybe just like a few pieces of fruit or something. I’ve tried something like that but with viatim water. It said on the bottle vitamins + water= all you need I tried it but my mom forced dinner down my throat but only a few bite, so yeah you should be fine if you tried. I dont say you should try it but I know how annoying to hear people tell you you shouldnt starve yourself.

Most (not all) vitamins and supplements aren’t tested by the FDA so you don’t know what you are really getting in them. They don’t all have what they claim to have in them.
Not a good idea! Vitamins have just that vitamins and minerals — where is everything else you need? Proteins, carbs, and fat?????

Generally if you take a vitamin tablet without any food, your body will not be able to absorb the vitamins from it. They need to be taken with food so that the vitamins can be utilised.

Also you’d be having no carbs, no protein, no fats. You need these things to stay alive. You wouldn’t last long on purely vitamin tablets and water before you end up collapsing and probably in the hospital

You need more than the vitamins and minerals provided by a vitamin supplement. The body also needs protein, fiber, and carbohydrates, none of which get packed into even the largest vitamin tablet. Fasting will cause you to lose weight, that’s true- but once the body stores of fat have been exhausted it will turn to the muscle and bone tissue for the things needed to preserve life. People who fast in protest usually only make it about a month before they collapse. The damage done to the body is sometimes not competely repairable either. Without protein, the body can’t repair tissues. Without carbohydrates, the body begins breaking down fats, which release large amounts of ketones into the blood stream. Ketoacidosis tears up the kidneys and gives you bad breath, dragon breath is more like it. Vitamins and minerals are simply tools used by the body to do maintenance and repairs- your food is the building material it uses. You need both to stay healthy.

I smile because I actually asked my nutritionist this. No you could not survive and be healthy doing this.. Your body needs fiber. so.. I thought.. why not take that supplement too…. It’s a fact that there is no supplement out there that would give you what you really need.. most vitamins pills have everything in it.. but it doesn’t mean your body would absorb it. Ex. Calcium Carbonate…. it’s like eating rocks.. most of it just goes through your system and not into your body for use. Also.. your body needs more than the little box says on your bottle. It needs photochemicals that you get from vegetables and fruits.. and fibers and Fatty acids that you get from fish and nuts.. It’s a good thought.. but.. Nature still beats man when it comes to this. If you are concerned about eating less calories.. up your fish and veggie intake. Fresh veggies are best. And less processing.. Continue with a good supplement… Know where everything comes from and take up to doing a little reading on the subject.. There is a lot to learn and it’s interesting to see how our body reacts. I could talk for hours on it… I have been so amazed to find simple steps to being healthier with less calories.

Synthetic vitamins do not provide the work the body needs to be healthy. Our bod needs its fuel from food to be efficient. Fibre to keep us regular, fruit for healthy skin and circulation, vegies for fibre and to make up for missed fruit, so on and so on.
These Vitamins do not stay in the system as long as food so we can not be sure that we are getting our 100% daily supply.
And all advertising states you should take supplements as an adjunct to a healthy diet.
Loss of fat does not occur when the diet is inadequate, the body draws on its own muscle tissue to provide protein etc., as it believes it is in time of famine.
Be carefull with your body as it is the only one you have for life.

    Quoted Miss May
"but I know how annoying to hear people tell you you shouldnt starve yourself."

It might be annoying, but the people that would be telling you this would also tell you that it’s not wise to put a gun to your head, stand on the rail road tracks when a train was coming etc etc etc.
Starving yourself of food and only eating vitamins is Not healthy and maybe those annoying people might just know what they are talking about.

    Hi Blondie,
No, It’s impossible, we are humane need food in our system to balance our metabolism. How would you be able to have a
bowel movement? The whole idea is a very unhealthy thought
not to mention the consequences. Sorry you can’t live that way, nor would your family and freinds want you to.

Actually, no; you’re body will slip into "starvation mode" and will conserve and store even more fat to protect itself. Check out "You on a Diet," by Drs. Mehmet Oz and Michael Roizen.

The human body needs calories, which are made up of fat, carbohydrates, and protein. Calories are the energy that fuels the body’s cells. Vitamins do not have any of those. Without eating any calories, a person would die. Eating extremely few calories can cause serious health problems over time. Limiting calories to lose excess body fat and become more healthy can be a good thing if a person is overweight, but even while doing that, the person needs to eat calories.
