Can taking pre/post natal vitamins, when not thinking of getting pregnant or breastfeeding, beneficial?
I’m thinking that your body only takes what it needs. Is there any point in replacing a pre natal with a regular multi vitamin for ‘added nutrition’ when you don’t need any of the extra vitamins because your not making a baby or breastfeeding?
Next time you’re at the grocery store, compare a bottle of multi-vitamins with prenatal vitamins. They’re virtually identical. About the only difference is that prenatal has more folic acid. I’d say the only reason you would want to switch from prenatal is if you have problems with anemia. One a day for women has I think 150% of iron where prenatals don’t. Otherwise, they’re fine for you!
I take them because they’re easier to swallow and I’ve never been pregnant and don’t plan on trying to become so for a couple years.

Prenatal vitamins are beneficial even if you’re not reproducing. Your body will excrete any unused vitamins. Prenatal vitamins are quite complete with extra calcium, iron, and folic acid. Take your vitamins with food for your body to best absorb them.
