Most high quality cod liver oils, like Carlson and Nordic Natural, undergo molecular distillation which removes virtually all traces of mercury, PCBs, PDEs, and dioxin.

Dr. Mercola, how …
Dr. Mercola, how much mercury and other industrial toxins are in this oil compared to regular fish? Considering it is from the liver, a filter, I had thought it would be quite polluted. I wonder if it is worth it for someone who has had a large mercury exposure, can you tell me what you think?

Pumpkin seeds are …
Pumpkin seeds are okay I hope! I know they have omega 3, 6 and 9, and this is the first I’ve heard that 6 is bad. Guess I should look into foods with high omega 6 fats and avoid them?
It’s halloween and I just got a bulk order of pumpkin seeds, so it seemed an appropriate question. I’m not familiar with your videos or practice, but thanks for sharing.

Full spectrum light does not cause your skin to produce vitamin D. Only ultraviolet radiation B will do that and that is present in sunlight, tanning beds and sun lamps.

I appreciated your …
I appreciated your pointing out some months ago that Vit. D is easily washed off and that one should avoid showering off right after sun exposure in order to retain the maximum amount of Vit. D possible. If you know of any studies on this, it would be helpful to have some guidelines to know how long one should wait. Another interesting question would be what percentage of Vit. D one gets from outdoor exposure on a cloudy day.

I have found from …
I have found from Krispin Sullivan’s work and from my own experience that the DRY form of Vit. D3 is very poorly absorbed. In my case I took 10,000 IU of the dry D3 for a period of 4 months along with the 3T WFN cod liver oil and still failed to boost my 25(OH)D level into the optimum range that you suggest. I think it is important that you inform your readers that dry Vit. D supplementation is unlikely to provide them with any health benefits.

I have also found …
I have also found that it may not be appropriate to try to get ALL of one’s Vit. D from cod liver oil. After taking 3 tablespoons/day for several months (my weight is 150#), I noticed I was bleeding considerably more than normal from small wounds and abrasions, which told me that my blood clotting ability was being compromised, putting me at greater risk for stroke. In your many discussions of fish and cod liver oil over the years, I have not seen this possibility mentioned. Why?
